Nubia Unveils First Foldable Smartphone, Nubia Flip, in China
The subsidiary company of ZTE, Nubia, held a launch event in China to introduce its first foldable smartphone, known as Nubia Flip.
The device was initially unveiled during MWC 2024. What sets this device apart from other smartphones is its price.
Instead of targeting the premium segment, ZTE launched its Nubia Flip smartphone for the first time in the mid-range category, making it accessible to a larger customer base.
Price and Specifications of Nubia Flip
The Nubia Flip features a traditional clamshell design with a thickness of 7.0 mm when open and weighs 209 grams. It has a high-strength steel hinge that can withstand over 200,000 opening and closing cycles.
On the back, it features a circular screen, defined by a camera island. The round screen size is only 1.43 inches and includes an AMOLED display with a resolution of 466 × 466 pixels for easy access to notifications and some basic phone functions.
On the front, it features a foldable 6.9-inch AMOLED display with an FHD+ resolution of (2790 × 1188 pixels), a 120Hz refresh rate, and a punch hole in the middle top that houses the front camera. The screen offers a 2160Hz PWM dimming and full DCI-P3 color gamut coverage.
As for performance, the phone uses the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC with Adreno 644 GPU.
This processor is also present in another mid-range smartphone, the Moto Razr 40. The phone was launched in China with three configurations of RAM and storage: 8GB + 256GB, 12GB + 256GB, and 12GB + 512GB.
It boasts a 4310mAh battery with 33W fast charging support, claiming to fill the battery from 0 to 100% in about 73 minutes. The phone also features NFC technology.
Regarding the cameras, the main camera is a 50MP high-resolution sensor accompanied by a 2MP depth sensor.
The phone has a 16MP front camera, and users can also choose to use the main camera for selfies and video calls.
The camera system supports AI computational photography and features the comprehensive Neovion Taishan AI imaging system that can instantly complete fast shots by intelligently detecting motion and reducing neural network noise and image fusion calculations. It also has a dedicated night mode for capturing wide night skies.
Pre-orders for Nubia Flip have begun, with the official launch scheduled for April 16, and will be available at the following prices:
8GB RAM with 256GB storage for 2999 yuan, equivalent to $415.
12GB RAM with 256GB storage for 3299 yuan, equivalent to $456
12GB RAM with 512GB storage for 3699 yuan, equivalent to $511
